Interlaken is probably one of the most touristic places in Switzerland. Every summer (except during the pandemic, obviously), busloads of people come from all over the world to see the famous mountains, eat cheese fondue and take pictures of everything.
Despite that, this place on the flat between Lake Thun and Lake Brienz is my happy place in Switzerland and I’ve spent a fair amount of time there when I had a caravan on a campsite in Unterseen for about two years.
Before moving on to new adventures, we spent a week camping in the region this summer to escape the heat wave in Basel.
We got to know the family next door and enjoyed chatting with them, exchanging tea and beer. It was their first time in Interlaken, and we shared what we knew about this area. This inspired me to write this post. I want to offer some tips on what to do in this area apart from the strongly marketed attractions like the Jungfraujoch or the Schilthorn with the 007 James Bond exhibition.
